The artists:
Julienne Carey- Vocal
Julienne has studied voice professionally for many years in Australia , most recently under the guidance of Toni Randle, specializing in jazz. However, she says: “My best teacher has been performance. When you give an audience a really great interpretation of the words and the emotions of a song – doesn't matter if it's country, jazz, soul, pop music even – then you've really learnt something.”
Julienne's repertoire extends from the great songs sung by Ella Fitzgerald to contemporary jazz by Melody Gardot – with the likes of Ray Charles, Bill Withers, Etta James, Chet Baker and Dusty Springfield thrown in.
She has been front vocalist in bands in Australia and Viet Nam , including Let's Get Lost and Three Piece Suite, as well as a guest artist in the Toni Randle Quartet and the Andy Keegan Big Band. Her voice has been described as ‘sultry and low, with a unique tone' and ‘it comes from a place of pure emotion with great phrasing and amazing and sometimes surprising interpretations of classic jazz'.
