Pouilly Fuissé - Maison Verget – 2004

Region: Burgundy / France - Grape Variety: Chardonnay

Tasting Notes: Bright yellow. Fresh lime and pink grapefruit on the nose, with a zesty mineral underpinning. Blood orange and pear flavors show very good depth and become spicier with air, finishing with striking lift and cut. This energetic wine was raised completely in used barriques, and is based largely on Vergisson juice. It is good, with some richness, but basically a pleasant, straightforward wine.

Bourgogne - Cuvée du Pinson - Domaine Ponsot- 2002

Region: Burgundy / France - Grape Variety: Pinot Noir

Tasting notes: Deeply coloured with a twist of purple. Wide, with a high toned and slightly estery nose. The palate is well concentrated and certainly well textured. High-toned, ripe fruit in the mouth with good acidity and good length. There is plenty of wine here...

St Joseph - Chateau de st Cosme - 2004

Region: Rhone / France - Grape Variety: Syrah

Tasting notes: Ruby-red. Strong blackberry and cassis aromas are complicated by suggestions of graphite, iron and floral oils; this smells like Cote-Rotie. Focused and impressively energetic, with bright red and dark berry flavors, firm tannins and a long, mineral-driven finish. According to Louis Barruol, this is from petite serine.
