The artists:
Mauro Monti - Piano
Born April 24, 1965 in Locarno, Switzerland, Mauro Monti discovers jazz music after early music experiences on the Italian and Anglo-American pop scene. In 1990, he decides to attend the Music School of Jazz and Contemporary Music in Lausanne, Switzerland where he obtains a Diploma in Jazz Piano. In addition to these studies, Mauro completes a music pedagogy course at The Conservatory of Music in Lausanne and follows courses given by the pianist Franco D'Andrea at The Professional Music Center in Milan, Italy and obtains a Diploma with Honourable Mention. To further his experience, Mauro then follows master classes in the United States with well-known Jazz musicians like Kenny Werner, Richie Beirach and Mitchel Forman . Since 1994 he has taught piano and harmony at The Music Scholl of Jazz and Contemporary Music in Lausanne and in 1999 was "Head of The Piano Department".
In 1996, Mauro records his first CD, " The box of Memories " with the extraordinary participation of Furio di Castri on double bass and Roberto Gato on drums, The CD containing 10 of his original compositions and received excellent reviews from the critic.
Since 2007, Mauro is living and performing in Thailand and he is teaching at The Mahidol University College of Music in Bangkok.
Mauro has developed a piano style that is inspired by great Jazz Masters like Bill Evans, Herbie Hancock, Chick Corea ... In ballads the listener feels poetic lyricism, as well as, an energetic strength and virtuosity in up-tempo pieces. Blending the two, results in a refined combination of chord progressions. His style reflects and ideal balance between musicality and technique which truly seduces the audience. As a leader, a sideman or in Jam sessions, Mauro has played with a number of Swiss and international re-known musicians such: Furio Di Castri, Roberto Gatto, Flavio Boltro, Jeff Richman, Michel Benita, Mike Richmond, Adam Nussbaum Bruce Forman, Brian Bromberg and has performed in Europe, The Middle East, North America and Asia.

Dan Phillips - Guest guitarist
Dan Phillips has been a bandleader and composer for more than fifteen years. Dan began his musical pursuits as a teenager playing drums and percussion. He entered a local Community College in his native Sprinfield , Illinois as a percussion major before realizing that guitar was his calling. It was during this time in his hometown that Dan began playing his first Jazz gigs on guitar thanks to generous compassionate local musicians. His progress was such that after only a few years on the instrument he had gained enough confidence and chops to enter Berklee College of Music in Boston as a guitar performance major. Not satisfied with his own playing he began to realize how much work he had to do. He dropped out of Berklee and began shedding with renewed intensity. After a year of practicing and playing local gigs in Boston he decided to complete his studies. During his final year he was selected as the guitarist to represent Berklee at the 1990 Montreal Jazz Festival.
After graduating he moved to New York City and began his performing career. In New York he continued to lead his own groups as well as perform in a variety of settings as a free-lance guitarist. New York was certainly fertile ground and his ensembles included many of the new voices in improvised music such as Jim Black, Ben Street , Owen Howard, John Arruci, Chris Speed, Pat Zimmerly and Mike Sarin. In 1996 he moved to Chicago . It was here that he gained enough confidence through an expedition into unexplored Borneo jungle to record his first two CD's featuring original compositions, “Journey in Mind” and “Moment of Clarity”. His Chicago groups included Tim Mulvenna, Chad Taylor, Krzysztof Pabian, Phil Gratteau and Tatsu Aoki among others. Dan had always had students and in Chicago his teaching studio became a more important part of his musical and financial life. He began thinking of expanding his opportunities in this area and in 1997 returned to school and received a Masters in Jazz Pedagogy from Northwestern University .
In 2001, he relocated to Bangkok , Thailand and began teaching fulltime and acting as Director of Jazz Studies at Mahidol University College of Music. While in Thailand he performed with various jazz ensembles and led concerts featuring many first performances of “jazz pieces” and became a well known free-lance guitarist. In 2004 Dan began working in Tokyo , Japan for several months developing his trio concept in the local scene before returning to Thailand to accept a new position at Rangsit University Conservatory of Music as Lecturer in Jazz Guitar. In 2005, Dan accepted a position at Minnesota State University Moorhead where he worked as Assistant Professor of Guitar before returning "home" to Bangkok in 2008 to accept a full time lecturer position in guitar and jazz studies at Silipakorn University . Dan has also performed with many international musicians not previously mentioned such as Gerald Wilson, Layla Hathaway, Danillo Perez, Judy Roberts, Bill Yeager, Jeff Parker, Fancois Lindemann, Matt Darriau and Ed Thigpen. Dan has performed at Jazz Festivals in the U.S. , Canada , Japan and Thailand . |
