Ámantee is pleased to announce that it will host a Special Charity Jazz Concert on Saturday, January 9 th 2010 from 7.30 pm onwards, featuring the distinguished American Guitarist Dan Phillips with Saxophonist Pisut Prateepasena , Drummer Chanutr Techatananan and double bass accompanist Pornchart Viriyapark

This delightful concert will intrigue Jazz music lovers of all persuasions

This one-night-only performance will be a not-to-be-missed opportunity for Bangkok  music lovers. The price, including dining cocktail and drinks, will be 1,700 THB net per person .

The audience will be restricted to 80 persons. Bookings will be accepted on a first-come first-served basis. Reservations may be secured by e-mail ( info@amantee.com ) or telephone (02-982-8695).

Programme : The repertoire of this concert includes both Dan Phillipos original compositions and a few jazz standards. Songs are arranged by Dan Phillips especially for this Quatuor.

The artists:

Dan Phillips - Guitar

Dan Phillips has worked as guitarist, composer educator and
bandleader in New York, Bangkok, Chicago and Tokyo. His Chicago based Trio has released three original recordings “Journey in Mind”, “Moment of Clarity” and most recently “Destination Unknown”. He has appeared at the Montreal Jazz Festival in Canada, Pattaya Music Festival and Hua Hin Jazz
Festivals in Thailand, Asikaga City Jazz Festival in Japan and Krakow Jazz Festival in Chicago.

He is currently Lecturer of Guitar and Jazz Studies at
Silapakorn University in Bangkok, Thailand. He is a graduate of Berklee College of Music and Northwestern, University.

Dan has performed internationally with jazz musicians such as Gerald Wilson, Danillo Perez, Judy Roberts, Jeff Parker, John Stowell, Matt Darriau, Jim Black, Ben Street, Chris Speed, Pat Zimmerly, Mike Sarin and Ed Thigpen.

Pisut Prateepasena -  Tenor Saxophonist

Pisut began studying music at a very young age with his father as a main influence. At the age of 16, he chose Tenor saxophone as his main instrument. With strong family support, his interest for jazz was awakened and that led him to win Thailand Musical Youth Competition #1. He attended Mahidol University for a Bachelor of Music (Jazz Studies) and studied with Krit Buranavitayawut.
He started his professional career in music with the renowned ‘Arnon Jazz Band’ led by Thailand’s legendary drummer ‘Arin Panpum’ (LEK T-Bone). He was only a freshmen at the moment. Later he worked with pianist Nu Vudthivichai, bassist Dome Hayodom, and drummer Chanutr Techatana-nan which they finally formed the group ‘Mansri’. One thing led to another, hee was invited by Nu Vudthivichai to join Faculty of Jazz Music, Silpakorn University in a full-time position. This has been of great importance to his development as a musician and instructor.
Pisut to date has performed at countless international jazz festivals such as:
• World Saxophone Congress XIII 2003 (Minneapolis)
• Tsunami Benefit Concert BBC 2004 (London UK)
• Glastonbury Festival 2005 and 2007 (UK)
• Tonic Club 2006 (New York)
• WOMAD 2006 (Singapore)
• Asia on the Edge 2008 (Singapore)
At present Pisut can be heard in his own group ‘OMAH’ where he has written a number of his own compositions. He also works as a sideman with T-Bone, PhotoSticker Machine, and Soul After Six.

He currently holds the position of Assistant Dean for Student Affairs at the Faculty of Music, Silpakorn University. Pisut has been studying with: Sunporn Longchaloen, Krit Buranavitayawut, Dan Phillips, Michael Blake, Donny Mccaslin.

Chanutr Techatananan - Drummer

Chanutr Techatananan was born in Bangkok, Thailand in 1978 and began to play drums since he was 15. In 2002, he earned an award "Winner of the Best Drummer in the Open League Category" from Thailand Drum Contest No.1 which was organized through a cooperation of Percussive Art Society International Convention (PASIC).


Chanutr is now teaching full time at Thailand's most recognized College of Music--Silpakorn University where he continues to perform and do workshops extensively. He is also currently performing with Mansri and OMAH Special Quartet. He has already done so with such groups in various local and International jazz venues such as Thailand Interternational Jazz Festival,
Huahin Jazz Festival, Flowers for Andaman “Live Jazz for Live”, “Tsunami Benefit Concert” in London, Lincoln Center Festival 2006 in New York, “Japan-Thailand Commemorative Jazz Concert” by Royal Thai Embassy, Tokyo and most recently “Asia On The Edge 2008” in Singapore.

Recently, he has released a highly acclaimed DVD “Over the Barline”
that received overwhelmingly positive reviews. In the meantime, he's actively working as a sideman both in studio and live in Bangkok’s jazz scene.

 

Pornchart Viriyapark - Double bass

Pornchart Viriyapark is a graduate of Silpikorn University College of Music and is rapidly becoming Bangkok’s first call Double Bassists. He is a member of OMAH Quartet and has performed at the Hua Hin Jazz Festival and the Thailand Jazz Conference.

He also recently joined the Silpikorn Faculty as a part time instructor.
